There are two different ways to locate content on SmallGroups.com: searching and browsing.
Option 1: The Search ToolYou will find the Search Tool at the top of every page on SmallGroups.com, just to the right of our circular logo. To use the tool, type the word or phrase you're looking for into the search bar. For example, if you were hoping to find a Bible study on the Book of Genesis, type "Genesis" into the search bar.
Then hit Enter or click on the arrow button in the search bar. This searches every word on the page, as well as the title and citations. To get the maximum number of results, use words that have broad meanings and apply to a variety of topics—for example, "community."
To get a smaller amount of search results, you have three options. First, you can include more words in your search query. For example, if you want to find an article or resource that deals with worship in community, type "community, worship." (The comma is optional.)
A second way to get a smaller amount of search results is to use quotation marks. For example, type "coaching small group leaders" into the search bar. When you use quotation marks, the search results will only include articles and resources that contain the exact phrase you are searching for. This is a great way to find articles by specific authors, like "John Ortberg."
A third way to limit your search results is to use our Advanced Search feature. To do this, click on the "advanced search" link below the search bar. Type the word or phrase you want to look for into the search bar, and then use the check boxes to select which categories you want to search. For example, if you only want to look for Bible studies, click the "Bible study" check box (you may select more than one). If you want to look for Bible studies designed for teenagers, check the "Bible study" box under Type and the "Teenagers" box under Audience. Then hit the search button.
Option 2: BrowseYou can also find what you're looking for by browsing through our different content types and topics. To start, click on the "browse" link located below the search bar at the top of each page.
Our list of Master Topics gives you a broad overview of the principles and ideas covered on the site. (Note that there are separate divisions for Bible-study topics, Training topics, and Popular topics.) You can also look for a specific topic by clicking on a letter under the "All Topics" section.
Under By Type, you can see the different categories of content featured on SmallGroups.com.
And By Small Group Role lets you browse for content that relates to a specific job or role in small-group ministry.
If you still don't find it…If you aren't able to find material on a topic that you think we've probably covered, try searching with a different form of the word. For example, instead of searching on "forgiving," try "forgiveness." Also, make sure you've spelled the word correctly in the search field.
We also recommend that you try synonyms and related ideas when you search. For example, if you search on "money," you might not receive as many results as if you search on "stewardship."
