Starting or Restarting a Ministry
I want to start a small group as a way to grow spiritually with several of my friends. Where do I begin?

A great easy user friendly way to start a group is to get a video curriculum that provides the teaching and the questions. You can find a lot of great cheap curriculums like this at andystanley.com. Andy is by far one of the best teachers in the nation.
Well, basically, i remember that i had in my heart a desire to start a group for women in the church and outside the church, so i spoke to the ladies in our church about it. It took a couple of months before i actually called the first meeting...i realised that even if one person turns up, you need to just continue with the initial plan for the group..which i did. The first time, 5 people turned up..then they went out and told others. We now range about 8-10 regular members, others come and visit then go again. So, just tell your friends, find a date and invite them. Stick to it no matter what. So
Really, the question here is how do I grow in my relationship with Christ in community? Instead of doing this lone ranger, how do we join together to grow, and do it in relationship with other people? One of the best descriptions I know of is a relationship is: talking, listening, repeatedly. We talk to God (prayer, journaling, writing, singing, etc.), we listen to God (Bible reading, promptings, Christian community, etc.) and do it repeatedly (accountability, discipline, etc.) Likewise, we have talking, listening, repeatedly relationships with people. We talk to one another (sharing, confession, instruction, etc.), we listen to one another (compassion, empathy, time, affirmation, etc.) and we do it repeatedly (family devotions, accountability relationships, small groups, friendships, etc.). If you want to start a small group, firgure out what your talking, listening, repeatedly should look like first.
