Darryl's small group is experiencing a bit of turf war. One couple has hosted the group meetings at their house for more than two years, but now a newer couple would like to host some of the gatherings; they have requested the group change its meeting location for the past two weeks. Now that the idea of meeting in a different location has been raised, a third couple would like to meet at the church and use the nursery for childcare.
What should Darryl do?
Darryl, What an awesome dycotomy! I have led groups since the late 90's, always at my home. "Same place same thing....." Until last month. I formatted a calendar, including elements such as where (whos home to meet in), meal (dinner/appetizer), ice breaker game, worship leader, prayer leader and so on. Some of these people have been with me WAY TOO LONG, but none the less were hesitant to the changes. We are all sooooo glad for the new format. It gives ownership to those involved and reduces the Leaders/Shepards load. I highly recommend rotating homes as much as possible. If the church works for you with child care thats great, otherwise I recommend have an older child lead the younger ones at the host home. This will give the children a reason to attend making it much easier for the parents to attend, thus greater attendance. Hope that helps. In Christ, johnny koyle
It's important to keep all of the members of the group engaged. Not only would it be good to change hosts it also makes sense. This way each couple can contribute to the preparation and give the other couples a break from having to get the house clean.
