Darryl would like to do an assessment of his small group. They have been meeting together for almost a year and have never done any type of evaluation process. While Darryl doesn't feel like his group is totally off track, he does sense the group has drifted a little from where it was several months ago. He just can't put his finger on what has changed?

With this in mind, what process should Darryl use to determine how his group is doing? What tools should he consider that will help him with this process? If you could advise Darryl about doing an assessment, what would you tell him?

YOUR RESPONSES

Take a step back and look over the whole picture then find a quiet place to retreat to to evaluat his small group. Things seem to get clearer when we give God that quiet time with something on our heart. Also I think touch outreach has an Evaluation in one of thier books some where.

Maybe he is the only one perceiving the change. I would say to him to pulse the group. He might find out what is up by just asking.

Of course everyything should be bathed in prayer! Once set up for evaluation, Group should probably asses at least once every 6 mos. There are many resources out there that come with assessment forms that can be filled out. These are helpful and easily adapted per needs of group. One thing Daryll can do is ask the members of the group for evaluation. He needs their ears, eyes, and sense of direction for the group. He can also be more attentive to what is happenning during group time. Is everyone sharing? Are some too domineering? Is there a general sense of care and concern so everyone feels safe speaking their minds? Are people being accountable to one another? Is everyone attending regularly? What was the group like at first? Be specific. Now can you say the same about it now? What are ways it is better? What are ways it is not as good? There is much to be done. This is a start…
